Continuing Education for Barbers & Cosmetologists

All Texas barber and cosmetology licensees who have been licensed for fewer than 15 years must complete 4 hours of Continuing Education (CE) when renewing their license.

Required CE Hours:

• 1 Hour: Sanitation
• 1 Hour: Human Trafficking Prevention
• 2 Hours: Barber and/or Cosmetology Related Information

Multiple License Holders
Individuals who hold both a barber and cosmetology license may use CE credits earned for one license to satisfy the CE requirements of the other license.

License Holders Licensed 15+ Years
Barbering and cosmetology professionals who have held their license for 15 years or more are only required to complete 2 hours of continuing education:

• 1 Hour: Sanitation
• 1 Hour: Human Trafficking Prevention

If you hold both barber and cosmetology licenses and have not held both licenses for at least 15 years, you must complete the additional 2 hours of barbering and cosmetology-related education until both licenses meet the 15-year requirement.
